Trove Australia entry

Ipswich Bowls Clubs was established on 13 October 1910 as the “Ipswich Bowling Club”, but the first green was not completed until December 1912 when it was officially opened by Mayor A T Stephenson. The first club house was little more than a shack and sufficed until a more substantial building was opened in 1915. An early ‘international’ tournament was played in 1925 when a team arrived from Ipswich, England. Women first joined in 1939 and Wednesday became ladies day. This chronological history, written and edited jointly with Gordon Smith and Beryl Johnston and sourced mainly from the Club’s minute books, recounts a century of ups and downs for the Club, along with photographs, newspaper clippings and some vital statistics.
